Chief Bobby

Fire Chief Bobby is a nice guy. Just ask anyone. And that fire truck he gave away? Wow, what a great guy. In fact, if you ask any members of the Weymouth Fire Department, they'll probably tell you their Chief Bob Leary is indeed a great guy, but great guys don't always do a great job. That's why they don't have any confidence in his ability to run the town's Fire Department any longer.

Fire Chief Bobby wanted to be a firefighter his whole life and he devoted his whole life to it. But being a firefighter is different from being a Fire Chief. Fire Chiefs these days have to be good politicians and good bookkeepers. Fire Chiefs don't fight fires in the big city anymore. They go to meetings and ceremonies and sometimes have to stand up to tough politicians that want to lay his firefighters off. He has to fight political battles and tests of wills against Mayors that want to start their budget cut-backs with the fire department because after all, what does the Mayor know about the safety of the town.

When the Mayor says she wants to hire more police in order to tackle the drug problem in Weymouth it was an opportunity for Chief Bobby to stand up and say, "yes, and by the way Mayor, we need more help in the fire department also." When the Mayor tried to have the Police Chief removed from Civil Service, Chief Bobby should have came out in defense of Civil Service and backed his brother police officers up. And what about Dave Madden, does he think Chief Bobby's a nice guy?

Not to worry though, Chief Bobby, Civil Service will probably save you from your department's mutiny and Mayor Kay and the Town Council will defend you because, well, you're a nice guy.
