Second Place

Congratulations should be extended to the United States Hockey Team that won the Silver Medal in the recent Olympic Games held in Vancouver, Canada. Unfortunately, as the Games fade further and further into history, eventually only historians and statisticians will remember their feat. It’s easy to remember those that come in first, while second and third place finishers are more quickly forgotten. Any marginal hockey fan could tell you who won the 1980 Olympic Hockey Gold Medal but would be hard pressed to tell you who got the Silver.

Temper Your Applause

The Weymouth Town Council, as recommended by the Preservation Committee, recently approved the purchase of a tract of land located on the banks of the Back River, immediately adjacent to the Abigail Adams State Park. The Special Meeting was called strictly for the purpose of addressing any concerns residents might have had about the land purchase. There was a turnout of approximately 25 people who all appeared to be in favor of the Preservation Committee’s recommendation, some even commenting how this would have made the late Mary Toomey, who was instrumental in the protection of the Back River, very happy. There were several rounds of applause as residents and Council Members commented and finally approved the purchase.
